Formerly known as Lava Lodge, U Hostel Rotorua is the latest addition to the U Hotel Group portfolio and the group’s first hostel accommodation in New Zealand. Super conveniently located and right in the entertainment district in Rotorua, U Hostel Rotorua features 32 rooms with varying room types to suit all budgets!

From a Single Bed with shared facilities to the Deluxe Family Suite with kitchenette and ensuite facilities, we have options that suit all travellers looking for that perfect stay in Rotorua! Most rooms feature balconies and ensuite bathrooms and our female guests can also enjoy our “Wahine Rooms” for privacy and security.

Cook up a storm and meet new people in our communal kitchen on the first floor and social hub on the ground floor. We also feature a laundry and pool and guests with vehicles can use our free parking on site.

We are big on security and privacy and have listened to U and your needs when it comes to contactless check-in and check-out, which has resulted in automated service offerings. No reception means no need for additional staff, but still offering 24/7 assistance via our messaging service and contact number along with external, entrance way and hallway security cameras to ensure peace of mind throughout your stay.

What You Need To Know

Reception hours
Whilst we do not have a reception desk onsite our team is available between 9am and 5pm everyday via phone or email. After 5pm we will be available by phone.

Check In/Check Out
Check in from 2pm and Check Out at 10am. We may be able to offer a late check out if the room is available. Just ask one of our friendly staff. We will be able to store your bags if you are departing later in the day.

Restaurant, Bar & Breakfast Room
We do not have a restaurant but do have a kitchen and dining area that you can utilise. We also provide dishwashing soaps and material and we kindly ask that you clean up after as a courtesy to other guests.

Parking
We are located close to the city and within easy walking distance so U do not need to bring the car but if you have to then no worries, we have on-site car-parks at the property that can be utilised on a first come first served basis. Off Street Carparks are available and we will be happy to assist with queries.

Laundry Facilities
Paid laundry is available for washing and drying. We can provide change (coins) to use the laundry.

Is Reception Open 24 Hours?

Our staff are available from 9am to 5pm daily and outside of these hours we are available via call or email. If you are arriving after 5pm or have any questions don’t worry, we have a contact service via phone and messaging service which will operate throughout so yes . . . it’s available for 24 hours but only slightly differently

If there is no one based at the property what security systems do you have in place?

We are big on security and privacy and have listened to U and your needs when it comes to contactless check-in and check-out, which has resulted in automated service offerings. After hours we offer 24/7 assistance via our messaging service and contact number along with external, entrance way and hallway security cameras to ensure peace of mind throughout your stay. Access to the building and rooms are via a keypad lock which uses a unique code and this information is sent to you on the day of your arrival.

What time is Check out and what time can we check in from?

Check in from 2pm and Check Out is at 10am. We are happy to offer a complimentary late check out up to 11am if the room is available and charges may apply for requests after 11am.

Do you store luggage until Check-in and after Check-out time?

Yes we have a store room at the facility to store bags and this can be booked on a first come first served basis.

Do you accommodate Late Check-out?

We do accommodate late check-out, but it is based upon availability, just contact us and we will do all we can to assist you.

If we are staying for more than 1 night do you service rooms?

We do not provide housekeeping service during your stay unless this is requested. Charges may apply.

Where are you located?

We are located at 1286 Arawa Road within walking distance to the city shopping, cafes, restaurants and entertainment. There are some rooms on the ground level but all other rooms are accessed via 1 flight of stairs. There is no elevator access to rooms located on the 1^st , 2^nd and 3^rd levels of the building.

Can anyone use the kitchen and communal areas?

Yes, all registered guests are welcome to use our kitchen, dining area and laundry during your stay. We ask that you clean up after yourself when you have used kitchen crockery/utensils as a courtesy to other guests. We provide cleaning soaps and materials for your convenience.
